The aircraft industry should adopt innovative technologies to achieve more efficiency and quality in production and eliminate the risk of failures due to manual operations. Emerging technologies such as artificial neural networks in AI, mixed and augmented reality, and collaborative robotics that already feature in other industries can support the aircraft sector to innovate assembly and quality control operations and improve productivity.

The EU-funded AssAssiNN project will develop and confirm a robust multifunctional assembly cell capable of supporting manual operations such as installation of typical fuselage systems and equipment. The solution will increase structural integration, reduce overall cost and structural weight, increase multifunctional materials, restrict environmental impact and extend aircraft lifetime.
